Unlike in most other jurisdictions, the Patent Prosecution Highway works very, very well for cost-effective prosecution of patents in Canada. the reason is simple: in Canada, examination is deferred at no cost and without effort for up to 5 years. This allows time to prosecute your claims to allowance in a corresponding jurisdiction such as the USPTO or EPO.
File your Canadian application as normal, including claiming priority under the Paris Convention or PCT.
Do not request examination (deferral without cost or effort for up to 5 years).
Upon allowance elsewhere, voluntarily amend Canadian claims to conform to allowed claims elsewhere, request examination in Canada, invoke the PPH.
Usually, within 60-90 days received your allowed Canadian patent.
